So much accomplished this weekend! Thanks to all who showed up! Monday will be a huge push to finish. If we accomplish everything we need to, then we might even start painting on Monday.

We will be here from 9am - 9pm all day Monday. We really need people who can be here in large chunks of time so that we can get more done.

Here's Monday's goals: (pre-painting...)

Finish the Corny Collins podium. It needs to be on wheels.
Finish the scoreboard.
Finish the cut out panels for the Corny Collins sign
Build push handles for the jumbo spray can.
Build the black board for detention.
Build Tracy's jail cell.

Welcome back. Time to work off some Thanksgiving calories!

Technical Theatre 4th block - You will be producing the dance concert this week. Be prepared to bring your A-game.

Technical Theatre 3rd block -
Monday - Tuesday: We'll be striking a few things from Steel Magnolias and preparing the black box for Drama 2&3 scenes.
Wednesday - Friday: We will be working on the dance concert. This may include some portfolio time. Bring your stuff - We'll have time each day to work.

All classes, remember that your Audience Critique papers are due Monday, 11/28/2011. If you're just now reading this and realizing that you haven't written anything... Uh Oh! Time to play catch up. Make sure you followed your rubrics!

I feel as if I'm on borrowed time this week. We need to work like the show opens tomorrow, every day. Monday - Friday of this week, the goal is to get the set, lights and props ready for tech weekend and next week's dress rehearsals. You'll need shoes and appropriate dress out clothes all week.

PORTFOLIOS:
Monday you will receive a hand out regarding your portfolios. You will be working on this once I am on leave for Baby Joe. The handout will clearly spell out what you need to do. Be prepared. Start purchasing these items now. I'll let you leave your portfolios and supplies here in the theatre, but it's your responsibility if they are lost or stolen. See me if or when you have any questions.

Have a great week, and each day this week should be an improvement on the last. You will be a powerhouse by the end of the semester if you do this! I promise.

I know you all thought the baby came when I was out on Friday - It didn't. Just a practice run. Two weeks left.

In the meantime, we have ANOTHER show to build in record speed. Be prepared to work every day this week. Be prepared to dress out every day this week. Be prepared to better yourself every day. Be prepared to leave class every day this week better than when you came.

Here's what's on tap for this week:
MONDAY: Ripping stock 1x12x12' to 1x3. (What is the actual?) Start working with materials according to construction drawings
TUESDAY: Complete cut lists, begin laying out hollywood flat frames
WEDNESDAY: Complete hollywood flat frames, start facing with luan
THURSDAY: Finish facing and trimming all hollywood flats. Make jacks, prime flats white
FRIDAY: Paint flats. Install flooring in Blackbox.

In 5th period Tech, We'll be finishing up the day's work, and tackling the props list. I'll post it here as well, so you can start looking for things. We'll prop by committee! It'll take everyone's help.

Busy week this week!

Monday- BRING YOUR BOOK! There will be a sub, you will need to study your hand tools for a test on Tuesday.
TUESDAY- hand tool exam, then painting planks
WEDNESDAY- FINISH THE SET!
THURSDAY- Labeling and prepping the set for travel.
FRIDAY- Loading the truck!

This Wednesday we will have a work day to finish the set. We will work after school until 7pm.

Also, this Friday, you'll have an opportunity to load in the set at the Civic Center. We'll be leaving from Pebblebrook immediately following 5th period, and will work until 8pm. We'll talk about the details in class this week. Start making plans to help out!

This week in Technical Theatre, we will continue the set build for ComPAny 2012: The Heat is On. Last week, we successfully completed legging and setting up all platforms for the show.

Here's what we should accomplish this week:

Leg up stair platforms
Build and complete stair fillers
Rip and install masonite facing
Rip masonite for planks
Prime all platforms and facing
Paint all platforms and facing
Start working on the parts for the feature wall

For all days this week, you'll need to bring your dress-out clothes and safety gear. Also, we will be painting this week. Plan on bringing clothes that you can paint in.

Also, remember that I told you last week that if you loan your safety equipment to a friend, you and your unprepared friend will lose points for the missing item. It's time to start holding each other accountable!

Your daily production score is 20 points each day. If you don't dress out, you lose 20 for that day because you are unable to build or work. Remember that Production is 50% of your grade in this class.

You will not need your book this week, so leave it at home. You will need something to take notes with and on. Your pencils and notepads will suffice!

RAGTIME opens this Friday, and it's shaping up to be a great show. I want to make sure that everyone has a chance to come see it. You really shouldn't miss it! Tickets are $15.

Don't wait to get your tickets at the door, because chances are they're not going to be there! Last year for FAME, we sold out every performance. I expect we will do the same this time around! Find one fabric sample with contrasting colors. It needs to be larger than 12"x12". This item can be a swatch of fabric, or it can be an already manufactured item (like a shirt, backpack, etc.).

I can't say enough how proud I am of the crew for H2$, and how proud I am of those of you not on crew who helped get the set built and back on track. That kind of dedication goes a long way around here!

Hi everyone!

I hope you're well rested. Some of you have been in the past three days, and have fit in seven days of work on HOW TO SUCCEED IN BUSINESS WITHOUT REALLY TRYING. I can't express enough how grateful I am for you and your efforts and dedication. This set is on the verge of being on par with that on a professional stage. Many of you have stepped up your game, shown initiative and leadership, and have impressed me very much.

We still have a long way to go.

TUESDAY: Complete the list on the whiteboard. This is an ambitious list, which will include painting, welding, and assembling platforms and rigging, among other items.
WEDNESDAY: Prepare wave one of the load-in at the Civic Center.
THURSDAY: Complete everything that we have not finished to this point. Thursday is the drop dead day for finishing this set.
FRIDAY: Load the truck and send it on the road.

We still have work calls that need to be filled. Monday was a long and grueling day. Of the 11 people who came in, three people stayed the entire day. I'll bet if you asked David, Amber and Tommy if they'd like your help, they'd say YES! Here's the schedule for after school:

TUESDAY: After school until 8pm (PAPA Provides dinner)
WEDNESDAY: After school, we will meet at the Civic Center, 5-9pm

Here's the update:

Saturday: 10am - 6pm
Sunday: 2pm - 8pm
Monday: 9am - 9pm

I'll update the rest in class after things have progressed this weekend.

You'll need to enter thru the side door of the theatre that you use for class because of the iced sidewalks between Betty Gray and Reece Theatre. Please use extreme caution driving on side streets in the morning. There is still some ice on Old Alabama Road in either direction approaching the school. Drive very slowly.

Those of you who have already told me you are going to be here this weekend, thanks! Please make sure to email me if you haven't already done so. daniel.parker@cobbk12.org .

Make sure that you bring food for lunch/dinner all three days. Dinner will be provided Monday night only.

Remember to dress appropriately. Be ready to weld, paint, and perform general carpentry. I'll provide the party music!

I'm still fine tuning the plans, but it's going to be all hands on deck next week until we get it in the doors of the Jenny T. Anderson Theatre.

Here's how it's shaping up:

Saturday: Times TBD (I will post this based on road conditions, no earlier than 10am...)

Monday: 8am - 8pm
Tuesday: After School until 10pm
Wednesday: After School until 8Pm (at Civic Center)

HOW TO HANG A LIGHT

Hook the C-Clamp on to the pipe
Finger tighten the C-Clamp
Attach the safety cable to the pipe
Tighten the C-Clamp with your crescent wrench. Remember: TIGHT IS TIGHT ENOUGH!
Unwrap the cable and let it hang
Focus the light in the general direction it will be used according to the plot
Double check that the unit is right side up. Remember, the gel frame clip will be on the top, and the power cable will be at the bottom.
Tighten the various bolts and make sure unit is snug. Do not LOCK the instrument until the designer tells you to. (after focus)
Pull all the shutters
Plug the unit into the available circuit. If you don't know which circuit to plug into yet, let the cable dangle. This reminds us that it still needs to be plugged in.

Welcome back! For those of you who were on the trip to Ohio this weekend, I hope you found the trip useful and eye-opening in regards to the college experience. Please talk this trip up to your peers. I feel that everyone should go on at least one of these trips as an underclassman before your senior year. Obviously, I feel that everyone should go on these trips their senior year. Keep up with your fund raising efforts so that you are able to do this!

This week in Technical Theatre, we will be in production for THE LAST NIGHT OF BALLYHOO. This means we will be working on various tasks, most of which I already have generated into a WORK LIST from tech rehearsals. ETC Expression Offline Editor

The fine folks at ETC (The makers of our light board, and the creators of the Source 4 instruments) have made an "Offline Editor" version of our lightboard, the Expression 3. You can download the software and play with the lightboard on your home PC. (Sorry, it doesn't work on macs...)

Here's the link CLICK HERE!

This program allows you to patch, write cues and subs, edit cues, etc. It does everything our light board does, except it doesn't talk to dimmers. You can save your work to a 3.5" Floppy disk on your computer, and load the show directly to the light board.

Audience Critique Format and Rubric

Refer to the syllabus for what you may write about. When in doubt, ask me!
The paper should be no more than 2 pages in length.
Font: Times 12pt
